Obituary for Delores Cyrus Frey

Print
Delores(Dolly) Rita Montanus, the youngest of five daughters, was born in Astoria, New York on March 30, 1928 to Elizabeth and Harry Montanus. Dolly met her future husband, Richard(Dick) Cyrus while working in Manhattan at the post office and married in August of 1946. The two raised nine wonderful children together.

In 1969, Dick and Dolly started the family business; a health food bakery, Cybros Inc., in Waukesha, Wi. Delores served as Vice president for numerous years, and the hard work of family allowed her to retire and enjoy life to the fullest. Dolly loved to travel and was able to enjoy many far away destinations. She was first mate aboard their beloved sailboat, The Episode, and sailed to many ports of call throughout the Caribbean, all while living aboard. She acclimated to island life beautifully, and was able to share this chapter of their life with family and friends which led to many fond memories.
Dolly loved to dance and had a deep appreciation for the arts. She also loved to cook good old fashioned comfort food, and was probably the best darn gravy maker in the world. She was an avid golfer and bowler; and a major bookworm. Her love of reading kept her sharp, entertained, informed, and accomplished. Her intuition was uncanny.
Holidays and time spent with her family meant the world to Dolly. For Halloween, she would sew her children authentic costumes. Easter baskets were extravagantly filled to the top with goodies. The night of Christmas Eve, she would have the children open one present, and in the morning Santa had come with his gifts. There would be days where the kids would go ice skating on the “lagoon” of Lake Winnebago, and by the time they arrived home, Dolly had fresh, homemade biscuits and hot chocolate waiting for them. Through her selfless and magical ways, she created special, lasting memories for her family.
After many years of being snowbirds, Dolly and Dick finally escaped the cold Wisconsin winters. They built their dream home overlooking the bay in beautiful Foley, Alabama. Several wonderful years together were spent in their final resting spot.
Dolly was preceded in death by Richard Cyrus, her two sons; Michael (Diane) and Christopher. She is survived by her children Richard Cyrus Jr. (Beverly), Glenn Cyrus (Kathy), Jeanne Dipilato (Gary), Steven Berger (Melissa), Neil Cyrus, Cindy Geboy (John), and Elizabeth Geboy (Craig Schmidt).
On a bright side, Dolly was never alone. Many years later, she remarried Korean War Veteran and long time friend, George Frey. They enjoyed each other’s company and their serene lifestyle.
George passed away six months before Dolly. To ensure that Dolly was cared for, Cindy, her middle daughter, brought her home to live with her family in Mississippi. Cindy and her siblings wanted her to be as comfortable as possible. Dolly passed away the night of November 16, 2018, surrounded with peace and love.

She taught us so much and her legacy and beautiful spirit will live on through the many lives she has touched. Her kindness and wisdom; her beauty and grace; and her love for her family are gifts we shall always cherish. She was gentle and strong. She was passionate for those in need, and gave generously to St. Judes, Salvation Army, The Humane Society, and the Wounded Warrior Project, just to name a few.
Dolly was a devout Christian, a loyal follower of the St. Margaret’s Parish in Foley. Her beliefs reassure us that we will be reunited up above some day. Until that day comes, her spirit follows us and embraces us with warmth and tenderness.
We miss you dearly, mom.

Heartfelt thanks to her hospice family for the respectful love and care she was shown; and to her dear friend, Linda, who was truly an angel and always there for her.
