Edna “Sis” Krebs Van Horn, 96, died February 8, 2016. Mrs. Van Horn worked at Singing River Hospital as a assistant to for the administrator and Director of Nurses for many years. She was honorably chosen by her peers as Nurse of the Year. She received official recognition of the honor with added commendation for her outstanding contribution to the nursing profession and dedication to the care of the sick by the parish council of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in 1972. Mrs. Van Horn continued her nursing profession until she retired from International Paper in 1985. She dearly loved gardening and water and wildlife activities the Mississippi Gulf Coast offered her during her life. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gautier. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mississippi and resided in Pascagoula and Gautier during her life.Mrs. Van Horn is preceded in death by her husband, William Edgar Van Horn; parents, Charles Henry Krebs and Edna Moor Krebs; brothers, Council Krebs and Francis “Bub” Krebs; sisters, Alda Krebs Chamberlin, Ivon “Billy” Krebs Bennett, Mary Krebs Torrecelli, Nell Krebs Delmas, Eunice Krebs Walker, Dorothy Krebs Talley, Beverly Louise Krebs Schaub, and Joyce Krebs Goff.She is survived by her children, Merna Van Horn Wright of Mobile, AL, William Van Horn (Karen) of Gautier, MS, Edna LaRussa of Pascagoula, MS, and Jan Van Horn of Gautier, MS. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.The family wishes to extend special gratitude to staff of Notre Dame Hospice for their devoted care and guidance throughout the last months of her life.
