Obituary for Donald Edward Corkern Sr.

Don was born January 15, 1951 in Jackson, Mississippi and went to his Lord on July 26, 2018 after a valiant fight against heart disease.

A more loving husband, father, and doting grandfather, one would be remiss to find. He was a long time resident of Clinton, Mississippi, but had relocated to Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Don was the son of Russ and Willie (Tanner) Corkern.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and his brothers, David and Phil.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Debby Corkern, brother, Bruce (Rhonda) Corkern and sister, Carolyn (Mark) Williams. Don leaves behind, his son, Donny (Chassity) Corkern their children, Dylan and Jack, Doug (Heather) Corkern, their children, Charlyte, Joe, and John, and his daughter Mandi (Ricky) Huff and their children, Skylar and Jaydin.

A devoted Christian, Don graduated from Wingfield High School afterward attending Mississippi State University, an institution to which he remained loyal. Don served as a Mississippi National Guardsmen in the years 1972 to 1978 based in Jackson, Mississippi. Don dedicated a large portion of his life to Corkern Door Company of Jackson, Mississippi. His retirement led him to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the “salt life”, Don became a local immediately in the “laid back attitude” of the area. He loved his family and the Gulf often taking out his boat to fish. He will be missed as the flowers would miss the rain and the ocean would miss the sun. He had a beautiful, caring soul with sharp wit and a brilliant mind. “

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Chancellor Funeral Home, 7225 S Siwell Road, Byram, Mississippi 39272. Southern Mississippi Funeral Services of Ocean Springs served the Corkern family.
