Obituary for Melvin Frank Quitt

Master Chief Melvin Frank Quitt, 81, died peacefully in his Diamondhead, MS home on September 4, 2018. He and his twin brother, Elvin, were born on February 27, 1937 in Kenmare, ND to Ernest August Quitt and Hazel Gladys Ramsdell.

Master Chief Quitt married Alecia Joan Stephens in San Diego, CA in 1961. They celebrated 53 years of marriage. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend and his laugh filled the room.

He served 26 years in the United States Navy, 10 years in Civil Service and started his own computer software company, Q-Tech. He graduated from Roosevelt University with a bachelors in business and was a strong proponent of education. He enjoyed many years with his social group, The Steamers, along with golf, bowling, flying and Mardi Gras.

He is survived by his daughter, Dina Quitt Solaski; a sister, Sharron Quitt Freeman; his grandchildren, Erica Raley Jones, Micah Solaski, Matthew Solaski and Patrick Solaski; his great grandchildren Kaleb Raley, Remington Raley, Cason Raley and Rowen Solaski and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, 3 brothers; his wife, Alecia Quitt; a grandson, Elliott J. Raley IV and a great grandson, Raley Donnie Jones.

A visitation will take place on September 14, 2018 at Southern Mississippi Funeral Services, 6631 Washington Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS at 11:00 am and a service at 12:30 pm. The internment will take place at the National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS at 1:30 pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Zack Cooper. Funeral arrangements are provided by the Southern Mississippi Funeral Services.
