Obituary for Dorsey Danny "Danny" Savage Sr.

Dorsey "Danny" Savage, Sr., born February 11, 1955 to the late Dorsey Cyrus and Mary Connor Savage, changed his address to Heaven on October 26, 2018. He is now singing in the heavenly choir with his brother Stan as they did in many churches and youth groups growing up in New Orleans. Danny was born and raised in New Orleans, LA where he remained until moving to Gautier, Mississippi in 1971. There, he met and married the woman God created for him, Catherine Hays Savage. After moving to Mississippi, he began working at Ingalls Shipbuilding as a sandblaster. He quickly moved up in rank and ultimately held the title of General Ship Superintendent. After starting work at Ingalls, he became a volunteer firefighter at Martin Bluff Volunteer Fire Department. After being there some time, he was voted Fire Chief by his peers. Years later, Danny worked for Rescue 4 (AmServ) as an EMT, when being a medic was still volunteer. He worked full time during the day yet fought fires and saved lives at night. Danny spent 35 years at Ingalls until he was forced to medically retire. He was known as the man who would not "take any crap," but was one of the hardest working men there. He developed life long friendships there with people he had continued to stay in contact with. No matter how bad he was feeling, you could get him talking about that shipyard and he could talk for hours. He took great pride in the work he did there and was deeply loved and respected by his peers. Sadly, in 2014 his health began to rapidly decline, but his dear friends continued to check on him often.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Pat Holliday and Daphne Rowe, and his brother, Lewis Stanley Savage.

Danny is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cathy Hays Savage; his children, Christine Fedler Killian, Melinda (Robert) Tyson, Danny (Janeen) Savage, Jr., Derek Savage; brothers, Bill (Linda) Savage, Junior (Pat) Savage; sisters, Diane Imm and LaRose Natassi. He was paw paw to Caitlyn (Corey) Hiers, Carly Tyson, Joseph Savage, Christian Savage, Elijah Savage, and Abbigale Savage. He is also survived by his two great granddaughters, Lakyn and Georgia Hiers as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm at Southern Mississippi Funeral Services on Monday, October 29, 2018.

The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 30. 2018 at Crossroads Nazarene Church with interment following in Crestlawn Memorial Park.

We now have a hole in our hearts, but our grief does not compare to the overwhelming joy we feel knowing he is no longer in pain and with Our Maker.
