Obituary for LaDonice Hill "Pug"

Print
LaDonice “Pug” Hilburn Hill, 76, lifelong resident of Vancleave, MS, was born November 30, 1941 in Pascagoula, MS, and died on November 9, 2018, in Vancleave, MS. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Alta Mae Hilburn, her husband Henry, and her sister, Willie Mae Perreault. Survivors include her three daughters and sons-in-law- Deedy Cain, Suzanne (Roger) Davis, and Rhonda (Marc) High; grandchildren- Cherie (Tim) Drake, Cliff and Hank Davis, Thomas and Shelby Cain, Madden and Mason High; great-grandchildren- Ava and Kolson Drake; brother-in-law- Ronald Perreault; Special nephew- Troy (Millie) Hill; caregiver- April Macklin Hodges; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Hill is known as being a prominent community servant, and she was a lifelong member of Vancleave United Methodist Church. She was actively involved in many of the church’s missions and ministries. Her passion was serving in the Vancleave United Methodist Church Food Pantry and helping with the church’s Christmas Angel Tree program. She had had a remarkable ability to raise funds for the causes she supported, because people often had a difficult time refusing her many requests for donations.

Pug was employed by the Jackson County School District for 20+ years as a bus driver as well as an assistant teacher. Even after retirement, she stayed very involved with the school district by volunteering for the booster club and assisted with fundraising. She was always willing to give a helping hand to whoever needed it, and nothing in the world was more important to her than her family. She took extreme pride in all of the accomplishments of her family members, and she was the best mother and Granny that a family could ever have. Even if you weren’t related to her, that didn’t mean that she couldn’t be a granny, mother, therapist, advisor, friend, and confidant to you as well, and this statement holds to be true for many people.

Pug’s favorite time of the year was campmeeting, where she enjoyed getting caught up on all of the “interesting events” that had happened over the past year, as well as opening up her tent for food and fellowship. She had an affinity for the outdoors and, before she had ALS, could often be found outside mowing the grass, raking and burning leaves, (sometimes “over”successfully). Often she could be found riding around the neighborhood in her Kawasaki Mule, which she used for socializing with all of the neighbors. She is also known for her love of Taster’s Choice coffee and her stubborn refusal to only drink it out of a certain half-dozen cups. Mrs. Hill enjoyed spending her days giving “highly specific directions” to family and friends about what she wanted and how and when she wanted it done.
True to her servant’s heart, Pug requested that memorials not be given as flowers, but instead as donations to the Vancleave United Methodist Church food pantry. Donations can be directed to Vancleave United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 5141, Vancleave, MS 39565.

A visitation will be held on November 14, 2018 from 10:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Vancleave United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM.

Burial will follow at Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Elder Albert Goss will be officiating the service
