Obituary for Rodney Marcus Windham

Rodney Marcus Windham, 70, of Vancleave MS, died February 26, 2019 at his home after his courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. His loyal dog Smokey was by his side.

He was born November 18, 1948 in Century FL. He was the son of Marcus and Eunice Windham who preceded him in death.

Rodney was a veteran whom proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was awarded various medals in honor of his time, dedication, and service.

He retired from civil service after 26 years working first as a bearings mechanic at Pensacola Naval Air Station and then relocating to Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio TX where he was a warehouseman.

Rodney enjoyed the outdoors in various capacities. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed a good game of golf. He liked to go camping, four-wheelin, zip-lining and white water rafting. But his greatest joy came from his family. He loved nothing better than being together and playing cards, eating good food, telling stories and laughing, usually at the expense of others but was the first to laugh at himself. Make no mistake, he provided his share of laughable moments and everyone in the family can tell you a “Rodney” story.

He is survived by his loving wife Nancy of twenty years. Together they had twins, Maddie and Wesley, who were lucky enough to have their Dad as a stay-at-home father for the last thirteen years. He is also survived by his two older children, Brett (Vicky) and Dawn (Chris) from his previous marriage to Nikki Nichols. Rodney was also “Granddaddy” to Kyle and Kinsley. In addition, he was the baby brother of Brenda (John) and Patsy (Grady), who were directly responsible for spoiling him, and also the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

His mischievous smirk, infectious laughter and sparkling glint will always be remembered by all who loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 9th at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Vancleave. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org in memory of him.
