Obituary for Michael Charles McCloskey Jr.

Michael Charles “Mikey” McCloskey Jr., a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away April 26th, 2019 in Ocean Springs, MS.

Michael was born in Las Vegas, NV, on November 11, 1979 to Michael and Nancy McCloskey. His childhood was one filled with love and adventure. His family would often travel to surrounding mountains to camp or lakes to go fishing. This instilled in Michael a love of nature and the stars. These passions remained with him throughout his life. He lost his father as a teenager and became a pillar of support for his mother, siblings, and later, for his loving stepfather, Dale. Shortly after his graduation from Vo-Tech High School in 1998, Michael’s family relocated to South Mississippi and although he never lost his Western roots, he quickly embraced the Southern lifestyle. The Southern culture seemed to embody all that Michael was passionate about: good food, good fishing, and time spent surrounded by loved ones. He hit the high seas as a deckhand and fell in love with the water and its magnificent sunrises and sunsets. It was in this coastal region that he met his wife of 15 years, Charlene. They spent every one of those days in love, later becoming the proud parents to sons Zander and Kamen.

Michael worked several jobs over the years to provide for his family. He obtained his associate’s degree in Information Technology, worked diligently to keep the grounds at Keesler Air Force Base beautiful, and most recently worked as a proud pipe fitter at Huntington Ingalls. Here he built Navy ships that will protect our nation.

Michael embodied all that being a “family man” meant. He used his smile to brighten even the darkest of days, his heart to wrap all who knew him in love, and always offered his hands to help those in need.

Michael spent his final time on Earth doing what he loved best: traveling with his family, creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. His memory will live on in our hearts and through our stories.

Michael was preceded in death by his father Michael McCloskey Sr., Grandma Fran, Grandpa Eugene, Grandpa Charles, father-in-law Brent, and nephew Eli. He is survived by his wife Charlene and two sons Zander and Kamen McCloskey, parents Nancy and Dale McGill, grandmother Vernice Kleeberg, siblings Charles McCloskey, Jamie (Darren) Hopkins, Timothy (Lynda) McCloskey, Brandy (Victor) Del Toro, mothers-in-law Connie Brown Collums and Susan Clark-Carrington, sister-in-law Andrea Carrington, brother-in-law Alex Carrington, along with nieces Anabelle and Charlene (Anthony) Del Toro, nephews Gabriel (Kimmy) and Victor Del Toro, Kaleb and Gabriel Carrington. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving family members and friends.

Michael will be deeply missed by all he shared his life with. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed and can only change form. We hope we continue to feel Michael’s energy in the wind, smile at its power in a beautiful sunset, and smell it just before the rain. We hope to feel your continued presence in everything we find joyful. Most of all, we hope your energy finds us and we will spend our days looking to find you.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday May 2, 2019 from 5:00pm - 6:00pm at Southern Mississippi Funeral Services, 6631 Washington Avenue Ocean Springs, Ms 39564.
