Obituary for Joseph Mark Balius

Joseph “Joey” Mark Balius of St. Martin was born on April 19, 1995 in Biloxi, MS. He passed away on September 19, 2020 in St. Martin, MS.

Joey attended St. Martin schools. He loved fishing, playing guitar, and football. Joey loved spending time with his Meme and Papa, both of which he shared a special bond. He was an active participant in numerous adventures with his cousins, leaving behind many laughs and fond memories.

Joey was of the Christian faith. He was baptized as a child at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Once again, as an adult, Joey found Jesus, was baptized, and deepened his belief in the word of Christ. His favorite Bible verse, Revelation 21:4 reads, “And God will wipe every tear, from their eyes; There shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain for the former things have passed away.”

Joey is preceded in death by his grandfather, Austin Matthews.

Joey is the oldest son of Nick and Christine Balius of St. Martin, MS. He is survived by his sister Lauren (Jesse) Cogbill of Fairbanks, AK, and his brother Austin Balius of St. Martin, MS, and Gavin Butts of Saraland, Alabama. He is also survived by his grandparents, Ralph and Faye Balius, Hank and Carol Knuelle, all of St. Martin, MS, and Helen Matthews of Gulfport, MS. He leaves behind a multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a beautiful baby niece, Adeline Grace Cogbill.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel at Southern Mississippi Funeral Services, 6631 Washington Ave, Ocean Springs, MS. Southern Mississippi Funeral Services is honored to serve the Balius Family.
